Una calurosa mañana de agosto, paseando por Sultanahmet, decido acercarme a Les Arts Turcs y conocer a su propietario, Nurdogan, con quien contacté después de encontrar su página web buscando información sobre Estambul. Lo que me impulsó a ponerme en contacto con Les Arts Turcs es su manera de entender el turismo, y su autodefinición como lugar de encuentro de artistas, fotógrafos, periodistas y viajeros de todos los rincones del planeta.
Subo hasta el último piso y tras puerta me recibe amablemente Nurdogan Senguler, su dueño. A través de la ventana vislumbro la majestuosa Santa Sofía, que se alza orgullosa recordándome porqué escogí Estambul entre muchas otras ciudades para hacerla mi segunda residencia. Tras el té de rigor, nos sentamos a charlar sobre Estambul, sobre mi trabajo como fotógrafa, y enseguida me siento como en casa. Nurdogan me enseña algunos de sus CD’s de música favoritos, que va desde la música gitana y el Folk a el hipnotizante sonido del ney
Tras varias visitas conozco a algunos de los muchos amigos de Nurdogan, entre ellos Ersin Kalkan (periodista del Hurriyet) y Hayrettin Karateke (fotógrafo) y viajeros que vienen hasta aquí buscando un turismo más allá de lo típico, que se les muestre el corazón de Estambul, gente que busca comprender esta compleja ciudad.
Les Arts Turcs ofrece, entre otras muchas cosas, visitas a la comunidad sufí de Estambul pudiendo asistir a una verdadera ceremonia derviche, paseos guiados al antiguo barrio de Balat, o cursos de caligrafia, música tradicional, danza oriental etc…y lo mas importante, la oportunidad de conocer Estambul a fondo de mano de Nurdogan y su equipo.

A warm August morning, while walking in Sultanahmet, I decided to visit Les Arts Turcs and meet its owner, Nurdogan, with whom I contacted after finding his website while seeking information about Istanbul. What prompted me to contact Les Arts Turcs is his way of understanding tourism, and its self-definition as a meeting place for artists, photographers, journalists and travellers from all corners of the planet.
I walk up to the top floor and after the door I find Nurdogan Senguler, its owner, who receives me kindly. Through the window I see the majestic St. Sofia, which rises proudly reminding me why I chose Istanbul among many other cities in order to be my second home. After the tea of rigor, we sat down to talk about Istanbul, about my work as a photographer, and I start feeling as at home. Nurdogan show me some of his favourite music CDs, from gypsy music and Folk to the hypnotic sound of the ney.
After several visits I meet some of the many friends of Nurdogan, including Ersin Kalkan (journalist for the Hurriyet) and Hayrettin Karateke (photographer) and travellers who come here looking for a different kind of tourism, looking for someone who shows them the heart of Istanbul, looking for people who understand this complex city.
Les Arts Turcs offer, among many other things, visits to the Sufi community of Istanbul where you may attend a true dervish ceremony, guided walks to the old neighbourhood of Balat, or courses of calligraphy, traditional music, oriental dance … and the most important, the opportunity to know in depth Istanbul by the hand of Nurdogan and his team.
