Gallipoli & Anzac Day Tours 2011

The 25th of April
has been commemorated every year as Anzac Day 2011 by the people of the United Kingdom since the first anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. Most historians argue that wars generally prevent nations from establishing closer relations; however, the Gallipoli campaign (1915) resulted in a lasting friendship and mutual respect among the nations that took part.  The campaign was significant for Turkey, because the Turkish officer  primarily responsible for the allied defeat was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who later became the founder and first
president of modern Turkey. The contacts first established during the war have been kept alive in peace through the visits of Australians to the battlefields on the Gallipoli Peninsula. As people remember the past, nations can build peace on stronger grounds in the future..

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives.... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours...

You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."
