'Cappadocia'
Asia Minor is a high tableland which rises from the Aegean
coast in the west and extends to the mountain ranges of eastern
Turkey. It served as a bridge for many historic migrations from
one continent to the other. The high volcanic plateau at the
centre of this peninsula is known as Cappadocia, and since
prehistoric times it has been the home of various
civilizations. In later centuries it served as a refuge for the
Christians who escaped from the Romans and the Arabs. The mural
paintings which these religious communities left behind in their
churches have survived to the present day and are among the
finest examples of Byzantine art.

'Turkish Decorative
Arts'
(Foreword)The nations of our time find themselves in a satate
of continuous change and development.Within this environment
the main challenge is to be able to exist with a new identity. The improvements of the globallizing world, which could fill up
a whole new century can only be meaningful by preserving the
nation's and the individual's very reasons for existence. This,in effect will be in accordance with the nature of the cultural
accumulation flowing from the local to the nation and eventually
to the universe. In order for Turkey to be able to realise such
an agenda,it has to make use of the enormous accumulation, which is impossible to recraate once more, buy recognising all
values.Ýf the cultural wealth,from cities to houses,from
architecture to embroidery,is consciously subjected to
promotion and research it deserves then 'Turkey' and the 'World'
will benefit in numerous ways

'Hattat Halim
Efendi'
(Divani) This is a more lively, highly decorated form of
Ta'Iiq.From the time of Sultan Selim I onwards it was used by
the Turks in writing out fermans (imperial rescripts) and its
use in any other type of document was strictly forbidden.( Jell
Divani)This type of script was invented by the Ottoman Turks
and consisted of a more complex, ornately embellished and
decorated form of Divani. It was employed only in important
documents connected with the Sultan or the Saray. It was a
rather difficult type of script to read.(Rika)This script was
the result of a number of changes introduced into Rika' script. It was developed in response to the need felt for a practical
everyday script that could be written with facility and
rapidity. Before the introduction of the new Turkish alphabet
this script was used in correspondence, petitions and official
entries in State documents.Later it greatly improved in beauty
of form.

'Splendors of the Ottoman Sultans'
Splendors of the Ottoman Sultans is the first major
international exhibition to view these monarchs through the art, ornamentation and other objects that they created, called forth
or commissioned. The six hundred years-long existence of the
Ottoman Empire, under one of the most durable and successful
dynasties on earth,is a chronicle of mystery,intrigue,beauty,
and power left to posterity by a simultaneously tough and
creative people. It begins modestly with the rise of Osman
Gazi’s small frontier principality around the year 1300,and
reaches its zenith under Suleyman the Magnificient in the 16th
century, when the Empire straddled “four seas and three
continents.” It comes down to World War in I the early 20th
century and ends with the birth of modern Turkey still
surrounded by Ottoman influence...

'Turkish Delight'
(Book Description) Liotard's fine portraits of Westerners in
Turkish dress, Carpaccio's turbaned figures, and the coveted
"Turkey" carpets that appear in paintings by Lotto and
Holbein bear witness to a deep Western fascination with all
things Ottoman. It is this cultural influence, spanning five
hundred years—from the fall of Constantinople through to the
twentieth century—that unites the wealth of paintings, drawings, photography, and decorative objects in this
sumptuously illustrated book. The result is a visual feast of
Turkish delights, from the exotic allure of the harem and
Turkish baths to Ottoman-inspired Western interiors and
pavilions;from paintings of Europeans in Turkish costume to
carpets, silks, tulips, turbans, Iznik tiles, coffee, tobacco, and croissants. The delightfully informative text explains how
Turkey, the gateway to the East, became a fountain of
inspiration for so many artistic and cultural fields—painting, ceramics,
textiles,interiors,fashion—in the West.
